Zhangjiajie: A wonderland like a Chinese ink painting

Zhangjiajie is a world-famous tourist destination with unique mountains, canyons, karst caves and hot springs.

It is a wonderland with quartz sandstone peak forests of 264 square kilometres, unique karst landform and fantastic sea of clouds.


There are charming scenic spots including Tianzi Mountain, Golden Whip Stream and Huangshi Village.

 
“Pandora Planet” in Avatar is inspired by mountains in Zhangjiajie. The peak “South Pillar” is the prototype of the floating Halilujah Mountain on Pandora Planet. In 2010, the peak was renamed Halilujah Mountain.


As a wonderland like an ink painting, Zhangjiajie is worth visiting.

Tianmen Mountain, known as Yunmeng Mountain in ancient times, is named after Tianmen Cave. Peak forests are sometimes surrounded by clouds.


After the rain, Tianmen Mountain is surrounded by the sea of clouds, presenting fantastic scenery to tourists.


When tourists take the cableway, they will go through the sea of clouds.


Tianmen Mountain in the sea of the clouds is like a fairyland.


Tianmen Cave is the most outstanding spot in Tianmen Mountain, with a height of 131.5 meters, width of 57 meters and depth of 60 meters.


 “Tianmen pour”, a flood cascading from the cliff, is a magnificent view in Tianmen Cave. It happens once in a decade during the dry season and lasts for 15-45 minutes.  


Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is famous for its unique peaks, tranquil canyons and beautiful forest. There are over 3,000 unique peaks in different shapes.
With green trees and cool water, Golden Whip Stream is a tourist resort in such hot days.


A famous Chinese writer Shen Congwen praised it as “a young lady of Zhangjiajie”, and a famous artist Wu Guanzhong regarded it as a fairyland.


Golden Whip Stream is more than 5,000 long and it takes about 2-3 hours to visit the whole scenery spot on foot.
Broadleaf forest trees are lush in the summer.

 
Abundant with high and large peaks, Tianzi Mountain is praised as the king of peak forests.


It is a natural botanical garden with subtropical forests and rare animals all around.


The beautiful Tianzi Mountain in the sun looks like an oil painting with bright colors.


Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon is also a wonderland with a tranquil stream, lush vegetation and fresh air. Alongside the stream is the tourist passage made up of wooden boards.


Waterfalls and streams are all over the canyon.


The glass bridge across Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon is the highest one with the longest span in the world. With ten world records including the longest glass foot bridge and highest bungee jumping platform, it is known as “the miracle in the global history of bridge construction”.


On the bridge, the beautiful scenery under the canyon can be seen clearly through the glass. 

Walking on the glass bridge hanging over a 300-meter-high cliff is a great challenge for tourists.

But the bridge does serve as a good place to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Zhangjiajie.


In Zhangjiajie, tourists can not only appreciate the beautiful wonderland but also enjoy a fantastic adventure.
