Zhangjiajie Maoyan River Scenic Area reopened from August 28 and Jiutian Cave will resume starting from September 1.
Tourist Route 1: Red Army Experience Park—Jiutian Cave—Kuzhu Village—Maoyan River Scenic Area
Tourists can first visit the Red Army Experience Park, which was built based on the Second Front Red Army and Zhangjiajie local culture, as well as large number of red army historical materials.
It consists of Party building training base, youth study base and ecological area. It covers Red education, cultural experience, ecological sightseeing, theme entertainment, outdoor sports, catering and accommodation. It’s an important base for remembering martyrs, patriotic education and study.
After leaving the park, tourists can go to Jiutian Cave, where the Red Army had stayed, and appreciate a number of various shaped stalagmite and splendid stalactites in the cave. Gangbo Cave, one cave in Jiutian Cave, was the place where the last batch of bandits were wiped out in Chinese Mainland.
Then, tourists can go to Kuzhu Village, a red army village. Kuzhu Village is an ancient village with a long history and rich red resources. It’s a tradition here to light red lanterns at night. At that time, when the red army passed through the village at night, an old man in the village lit a red lantern to illuminate the red army’s way, and other villagers followed suit. This story was later written into a song Hanging Lights at the Gate, which has been popular until now. Maoyanhe red lecture hall collects many such red stories.
Finally, tourists can enjoy canyon scenery along the river. When drifting down along the river, tourists will appreciate the magnificent canyon, steep cliffs, exotic flowers and green plants. The red army won the Chixi River Battle, which was the first great victory of the Fourth Red Army after its founding. It was listed as one of revolution-themed tourism products on March 30, 2021.
Tourist Route 2: Jiutian Cave—Maoyan River Grand Canyon—Star Camp—jet boat—Maoyan River rafting
Driving from the urban areas, tourists can go to Jiutian Cave. Jiutian Cave is a natural karst cave, with magnificent cave scenery. It’s recognized as the first cave in Asia and the most unique Cave in the world.
After leaving Jiutian Cave, drifting on the Maoyan River, tourists will see the natural scenery on both sides of the river and white clouds are reflected on the water surface, looking like a fairyland.
After getting off the boat, tourists can also visit the star camp, where they can appreciate beautiful scenery, stars and relax yourself. The camping base integrates tent camp, outdoor barbecue, karaoke entertainment.
On the Maoyan River outside the star camp, tourists can experience the New Zealand jet boat. With its special design, it can complete a series of thrilling movements under the protection of the sturdy hull.
The last station is Maoyan River rafting, which is the typical tourism project of Maoyan River scenic area and hailed as “China’s first rafting”. Tourists will appreciate beautiful canyon scenery, and experience thrills and excitements when bypassing rocks and chasing waves on a boat.
